Bloemfontein - No formal offer has yet been received for the services of Heinrich Brüssow.
His agent and Cape Town-based attorney, Stephan Weyers, said that there is interest in his services world-wide.
"We are first waiting for an overseas offer before we enter into talks with local unions. Heinrich's first priority now is the Boks and the Tri-Nations. He does not want to get involved in negotiations," said Weyers.
He confirmed that the Cheetahs are one of the unions that are interested in Brüssow, whose contract with Free State expires at the end of the Currie Cup.
Free State backline coach Hawies Fourie told Sport24 this week that Brüssow had received a "very good offer from WP", but Weyers denied that an offer had been made.
Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské confirmed Free State's interest in keeping Brüssow.
"We will do everything in our power to keep him. I'm still positive that he will stay. We hope to receive an answer soon."
Brüssow, 24, has been struggling with injuries for the past year or so, but his excellent form in 2009 - when he was one of the nominees for South Africa's player of the year award - makes him an attractive target for the country's leading provinces and overseas sides.
It will be interesting to see the make-up of the Stormers' loose trio if Brüssow opts for a move to the Cape, after Francois Louw's departure to English club, Bath.
He and Schalk Burger compete for the Springbok No 6 jersey. However, Burger is not a "fetcher" in the traditional sense and it was one of Louw's primary jobs at the Stormers. It is possible that Burger may primarily be used as a blindside flank in the future.
The Stormers' first-choice loose-trio of this year - Burger, Louw and Duane Vermeulen - are all in South Africa's preliminary Rugby World Cup squad.
Burger and Vermeulen are injured, but are expected to recover in time for the World Cup in New Zealand in September.
Louw has an injured clavicle and is therefore unlikely to be considered for inclusion in South Africa's squad for the away leg of the Tri-Nations. Brüssow and Cheetahs team-mate Ashley Johnson are expected to make the squad that will be announced on Friday afternoon.
Johnson played his way into the team in the Super Rugby tournament and may even be included in the starting line-up as No 7 flank. Johnson was moved from No 8 to the flank in place of the injured Juan Smith during the course of the competition.
