Cape Town - Springbok and Cheetahs flyhalf Johan Goosen's hopes if returning to the playing field in 2013 have been dashed.
According to the Volksblad website, 21-year-old has undergone surgery to remove an inflamed appendix.
This comes after the Springbok management earlier this week expressed hope that Goosen would recover in time for the end-of-year tour.
Goosen was reportedly set to get some game time in the Currie Cup, but those plans have been scuppered by his latest setback.
Goosen earlier this year injured his knee in a freak training ground accident on the Australasian leg of the Cheetahs' Super Rugby tour.
