Mixed news for battling Bulls

Pretoria - Francois Venter was given the green light to train on Monday, but some other Blue Bulls players were not so lucky.

QUIZ: Sport24's highly addictive, yet almost impossible quiz!

Mornè Mellett (stiffness in neck) and Jono Ross (concussion) will only train on Wednesday, Blue Bulls team doctor Org Strauss said on Monday.

Tony Jantjies (hip) and Travis Ismaiel (knee) will be out for another week, while Jean Cook and Callie Visagie will be out for another month due to a thumb and ankle injury respectively.

The long term injury group are still the same.

Basil Short (knee, 5 months), Francois Hougaard (ankle, 5 months), Cornell Hess (knee, 6 weeks), Deon Stegmann (shoulder, 5 months), Arno Botha (knee, 2 months), Pierre Spies (bicep, 3 months), Louis Fouchè (knee, 3 months).

The Blue Bulls, currently bottom of the Currie Cup standings, welcome the second-placed Free State Cheetahs to Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:05.
