Cape Town - Sharks flank Jacques Botes will become the first player in South African rugby to play 150 Currie Cup games when he runs out against the Pumas in Nelspruit on Friday.

According to Beeld, Botes will be the first player to achieve this feat since the inception of the competition in 1889.

Botes, 34, will achieve the milestone against the team he started his Currie Cup career with, the Pumas. He played his first Currie Cup game for the Pumas in 2002 and represented them 27 times in the competition.

On Friday, he will play his 123rd Currie Cup game for the Sharks.

Kick-off for the clash at Mbombela Stadium is scheduled for 19:10.
