Midfield 'war' in Durban

2011-07-28 08:38

Cape Town - An intriguing midfield battle is on the cards when the Sharks and the Free State Cheetahs lock horns in their Absa Currie Cup clash in Durban on Saturday.

Sparks could fly between the centre pairings as all four players know each other really well.

Corné Uys (Cheetahs) and Meyer Bosman (Sharks) played together for the Cheetahs in last season's Currie Cup, while Uys' midfield partner for the Cheetahs - Andries Strauss - played for the Sharks last season.

Uys' direct opponent at outside centre against Sharks is expected to be Marius Joubert (the Sharks are yet to announce their side), and many believe Uys' good play was the reason Western Province did not renew Joubert's contract after the 2006 season - when both of them played their rugby in the Cape.

Both centre pairings will no doubt be determined to prove a point.

Uys confirmed to Hendrik Cronjé from Volksblad that no holds will be barred come Saturday.

"It will be war in the midfield," said Uys .

"There will be a lot of emotion. Myself and Meyer (Bosman) played together last season. Meyer and Andries (Strauss) have switched teams.

"Both centre pairings will be determined to get the upper hand, so it will be very interesting."

    Go Sonny Bill!!!

      MTRJ - 2011-07-28 09:12

Dude, you seriously need to get a life. Your obsession with SBW is borderline pathetic. Or you fancy him?

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-28 09:32

It's all in good fun, you idiotic idiot.

      cheetahkonin - 2011-07-28 09:54

      Yeah MTRJ, chill boet

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-28 09:57

Dankie cheetah, soos ek voorheen gesê het is daar n hartseer hoeveelheid siele op hierdie forum wat nie veel humor in hulle lewens het nie.

      MTRJ - 2011-07-28 11:11

Bulldozer - If it was meant as a joke or be funny in some way, then your sonny bill comments would not be strewn across most of the articles. I've seen them. Something that is repeated like this is not funny. And tell me, how is the comment humorous in any way?

      cheetahkonin - 2011-07-28 11:45

MTRJ, that is the point.....he keeps saying it, mostly out of context...thus, it's so silly and repetative that it's funny!!! @Bulldozer - party mense vat dinge wayyyy te ernstig. Kan nie bietjie vriendelike banter vat nie!!

      jk - 2011-07-28 11:47

      dozer- jou taal mannetjie

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-28 12:11

Ek stem cheetah, maar dit help nie om te baklei nie. Ek kry die idee ek en jy sal lekker om n vuurtjie kan kuier.

      MTRJ - 2011-07-28 12:41

Oh ok. So repeating something out of context then is soooper funny? Shame....

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-28 13:00

It's not my fault you've got the sense of humour of a bag of cement.

      MTRJ - 2011-07-28 13:40

Ok, my mistake. I see it now. Let me try it quickly. Go Quade Cooper! Nah, still not funny. Or do I have to repeat it a couple of times??

      Bulldozer - 2011-07-28 13:45

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's hilarious!!! The more you repeat it, the funnier it gets. Thanks bud, I needed a good laugh.

Why is Strauss NOT in NZ

      kosie - 2011-07-28 09:16

he was injured most of the year, i bet he will be our 1st choice centre in a year or two, there is no one with better defence than him.

      cheetahkonin - 2011-07-28 15:31

@El...that is such a good question, 100% sure snorre wont be able to provide a logical answer

  • swimfan - 2011-07-28 10:15

sharks can be thankfull robert is not playing!!! The only war we will be seeing on sat. is Andries tackleing the crap out of Weyer om te tackle bosman!!!!

  • Sh@rks Fever - 2011-07-28 10:25

What a pity Strauss doesn't play for us anymore. Could have been completely different for the Sharks in Super Rugby if he was there. Saw a lot of try"s go through Bosman's channel this year. Still dont understand why the Sharks don't play Riaan Swanepoel instead. But this will be a good game. Just hope the weather gets better in Durban. Hey Bulldozer. I heard SBW wants to come to the Bulls next season, that is hy he hasn't put pen to paper yet at the ALL Blacks. He said that he"s your number one fan and the Bulls made him a offer he can't understand.
