Lions skipper expected to be ready

Cape Town - Despite suffering concussion during their 31-16 Currie Cup win over the Sharks in Durban, Golden Lions captain Jaco Kriel is expected to be available for their clash against the Pumas in Nelspruit.

A press release from the union on Tuesday indicated that Kriel should be ready to face the Pumas on Friday.

He is reported to be recovering well and commenced a graded return to play (GRTP) programme on Monday.

Meanwhile, No 8 Ruaan Lerm sustained a grade two ankle ligament strain in the clash at Kings Park and is expected to be out of action for approximately four weeks.

The Lions are unbeaten in this year’s Currie Cup, having notched three consecutive bonus-point wins.

They lie second on the overall log, trailing the first-placed Blue Bulls only on points difference.

They beat the Pumas 44-27 at Ellis Park two weeks ago.

Friday’s clash at Mbombela Stadium is scheduled for 19:10.
