The Beeld newspaper reports that Guy and Ross Cronje, the 22-year-old twin halfbacks from the Sharks, have signed for the new Currie Cup champions.This comes less than a week after Ross played against the Lions in the Currie Cup final as a substitute.
Western Province is also another young player short after 21-year old lock Stephan Greeff signed with the men from Johannesburg.
Greeff played for WP in this year's Vodacom Cup and also represented Maties in the Varsity Cup. A former Matie captain, Callie Visagie, will also join the Lions.
Apart from the Cronje brothers, the Moolman brothers - Monument High School in Krugersdorp's best products over the last three years - are also back in Johannesburg after stints elsewhere.
Twenty-one-year-old Whestley impressed at scrumhalf this year for the Leopards while his brother, Bradley (20), played centre for the Blue Bulls' Under-21 side as well as the Junior Springboks.
Whestley and Ross Cronje will fight it out at scrumhalf with Michael Bondesio. They can also call on the services of Australian Under-20 scrumhalf, Eddie Bredenhann - who recently signed with the Lions. Bredenhann was born in Witbank, but later emigrated to Asutralia.
Another youngster is the 24-year-old lock, Hendrik Roodt, who signed from Griquas. Roodt has also had a stint in Australia. He played for the Waratahs in last year's Super 14.
The Lions also announced that former Bok wing Henno Mentz's contract was not renewed. He hasn't played for the Lions since April 2010 in the Vodacom Cup.
