Cape Town - Golden Lions assistant coach Johan Ackermann says they are ready for the final stretch in the build-up to the Currie Cup knock-out phase.
The Lions are well clear at the top of the Currie Cup standings, leading the second-placed Western Province by 10 points with four league matches remaining. One more win will all but assure the men from Johannesburg a spot in the last four.
However, they do have a tough four games ahead of them. A clash against the Blue Bulls at home this weekend is followed by an away game against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, then a home game against WP before concluding their round-robin phase with a trip to Durban to face the Sharks.
Ackermann told the Beeld newspaper they won't look too far ahead and will take things one step at a time. "We're not thinking about losing or what should happen going forward. Every week is a new challenge and every time we defy the odds and become stronger.
"If it comes down to us winning all those games, it will be good, but for now we're focusing on this week's game."
The former Bok lock also believes they are improving every week, which will stand them in good stead during the business end of the competition.
"We saw in every game that there are areas we can improve in. I don't think we have reached top form yet.
He also believes the union's "hunger for success" will make them a tough team to beat in the latter stages of the competition.
The Lions' game against the Blue Bulls at Coca-Cola Park kicks-off at 15h00 on Saturday.
