Johannesburg - The CEO of the Golden Lions Rugby Union, Manie Reyneke, on Friday announced the extension of 14 players’ contracts.
Ross Geldenhuys, Michael Killian, Jaco Kriel, Elton Jantjies, Jaco Taute, Riaan Arendse, Jano Vermaak, Kevin Buys, Josh Strauss, Martin Bezuidenhout, Wayne Swart, Cobus Grobbelaar and Doppies la Grange have all renewed their contracts with the Lions until the end of 2012, while wing Wandile Mjekevu has been contracted until the end of 2011.
In addition to the above players, stalwarts in the current Lions side like Waylon Murray, Trevor Hall, Franco van der Merwe and JC Janse van Rensburg, to name a few, plus the experienced Wikus van Heerden are also still contracted to the union.
“It is indeed pleasing that these players had no hesitation in renewing their contracts. With these renewals and the players who are still under contract we now have the nucleus of an excellent side contracted to the GLRU. With experience the youngsters who are now performing so well will improve further to make this a formidable side at all levels of competition,” said Reyneke.
