Lions No 9, manager in fracas

Johannesburg - The Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) has handed down a final written warning to scrumhalf Whestley Moolman after an incident with team manager Mustapha Boomgard recently.

According to supersport.com, an internal disciplinary hearing handed down the warning, along with a suspended sentence for nine months, to Moolman for an incident that happened in Boomgard’s office. An alleged argument broke out between the player and manager, whereafter Moolman allegedly grabbed Boomgard by his shirt and pushed him around.

Golden Lions acting CEO Ruben Moggee confirmed the incident and said “it was an internal matter which has been sorted out.”

Moolman’s agent Wim Meyer also confirmed the sentence and said his client would like to focus on getting back onto the rugby field.

Moolman is currently injured, and his contract at the Lions expires later this year.
