Cape Town - Rising star Cheslin Kolbe has committed his long-term future to Western Province.
The SA Under-20 fullback, who made his Currie Cup debut on the wing for WP against the Blue Bulls last week, has penned a three-year deal at the union.
Having already played a handful of senior matches at Vodacom Cup level, and also sitting on the bench for the Stormers in this year's Super Rugby competition, Kolbe’s development will be watched with keen interest by Cape rugby fans.
WP coach Allister Coetzee welcomed the 19-year-old's decision to commit to the union.
“Cheslin is an exciting talent. We look forward to working with him and watching him grow even more here at WP,” Coetzee told the WP Rugby website.
“We’re pleased that he has committed to WP Rugby, he has already learnt a lot and will continue to learn from dedicated senior players like Jean de Villiers, Juan de Jongh and Gio Aplon.”
Meanwhile, Coetzee also confirmed that flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis has arrived in the Cape on loan from the EP Kings.
“Demetri impressed in Super Rugby for the Kings and with him wanting to play Premier Division rugby during the Currie Cup it made sense for him to come back to Cape Town.
“It’s great to have Demetri back. Our first priority is to ensure that he’s fit to play, following his shoulder injury, and we will look forward to reintroducing him into the squad when he is able to train fully.”
WP drew 24-all with the Bulls in their first Currie Cup game last week.
They host the Free State Cheetahs at Newlands this Saturday (19:15 kick-off).
