Cape Town - Western Province back Cheslin Kolbe has been named the Currie Cup Player of the Month for August.
The 19-year-old, who has scored two tries in the competition thus far, beat Sharks loose forward Jean Deysel and Golden Lions fullback Marnitz Boshoff, the current top-points scorer, to the award.
"It’s a great moment for me to win this award,” Kolbe said.
"I didn’t expect it, but I’ll happily take it because I’ve worked hard in the competition thus far. I think all my team-mates have worked hard and we need to continue doing so.
"There’s still a lot of work for us to do if we want to finish top of the log come the end of the season."
Kolbe, part of the Springbok Sevens and Under-20 set-ups in 2013, has been outstanding form for Province this season, starting on the left wing in all five games to help the Cape Town team top the log at the halfway stage.
The new Sharks coaching team, director of rugby Brendan Venter, Brad-Macleod Henderson and Sean Everitt won the Coach of the Month award ahead of Allister Coetzee from Western Province.
The Sharks coaching trio are in their first season in charge at Kings Park and have so far led the team to three wins and two losses to sit second on the standings.
