Kaplan to ref Currie Cup final

Cape Town - Jonathan Kaplan has been appointed as referee for the Currie Cup final between Western Province and the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday.

Kaplan, who is set to retire as a professional referee, will take charge of his sixth Currie Cup final in his last appearance on the field.

He also took charge of the 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 finals.

Only André Watson (7) has refereed more Currie Cup finals.

Christie du Preez and Stefan Breytenbach will be Kaplan's assistants, with Deon van Blommestein doing Television Match Official (TMO) duties.

Kick-off at Newlands is at 17:30 on Saturday.
