Kankowski cited for stamp

2010-09-28 11:43

Durban - Sharks No 8 Ryan Kankowski will attend a SARU judicial committee on Wednesday at 12:00 after being cited for foul play during the Currie Cup game against the Lions on Saturday.

Kankowski was cited under Law 10.4 (b) for stamping an opponent.

The Sharks loose forward used his right foot in a stamping action on the body (stomach area) of Lions flank Trevor Hall during the 75th minute of the game.

The Lions defeated the Sharks 22-20.

Referee Jason Jaftha issued Kankowski a yellow card after the incident was flagged by the assistant referee Christie du Preez who recommended a 10 minute sanction.

  • Ryan - 2010-09-28 11:49

He has a very good record and is not a dirty player. Don't know what he was thinking. Maybe just tried to free his leg from the guy holding on to it!

  • Rita - 2010-09-28 12:03

He will be cleared It showed in the reply that the Lion player was holding onto his leg and he only tried to free his leg that it why it looked like stamping. Only at a fair hearing he will be cleared that is a fact.

  • hasie - 2010-09-28 12:08

  • Bugger - 2010-09-28 12:11

Soooooo!!! lated this should have been delt with on Sunday (12 hours ) What about the REF and AS REF are they to be called up for the two controversial try's and disciplined?

  • JAWS - 2010-09-28 12:12

aagg leave The KOFF alone please!

  • Wern - 2010-09-28 12:19

ag hasie, gaan eet n kasie. Dit is net vir my snaaks dat al julle shark supporters so kerm en kla oor die lions try, maar omdat dit julle pas kyk julle nie na mvovo se try nie.

  • Den - 2010-09-28 12:24

Oh for heavens sake he was trying to free his leg

  • Eish - 2010-09-28 12:30

This is so late..... I suppose it holds hope to the guy with the wistle missing his quide dog willl also get to stand on the carpet.

  • Steven - 2010-09-28 12:36

Come now guys, now that the LIONS are on top of their game we hear things like match fixing and unfare play, The fact is that the sharks tried for 80% of the game to get accross the try line and they failed, with good defence from the LIONS. Hasie, we are in SA not Pakistan. Get over it. LIONS RULE

  • bok4life - 2010-09-28 12:38

@ Bugger - Not sure how the rules go but according to a precious article both coaches agreed not to complain about the ref!

  • Jakes - 2010-09-28 12:43

What a load of trash. When they need to cite somebody, they don't do it, and vice versa. It was against the rules, he was already in the sinbin, nobody got hurt, and nobody complained. Cite the people that needs to be cited, please.

  • Weepee - 2010-09-28 12:45

Give Kanko 8 weeks - the dirty b****d!

  • @the sharks supporters - 2010-09-28 12:45

trying to free his leg?.crap. he stomped on hall, then pretended to get his foot free. now he gets to face the music.. i bet he gets off with a warning so he go on the end of year tour. also, no match fixing in this one hasie, just a hard fought, controversial game of rugby...and sour grapes a-plenty....

  • Andre - 2010-09-28 12:52

Jip, Kanko is a great sportsman. They should have punished the guy on the turf for holding-on to a player who was on his feet! Professional foul? Obstruction? See for yourself. But, I do not condone stomping, if it was...

  • Sharks - 2010-09-28 12:57

@Den, i aggree with your statement, he was trying to get his leg free and the lion player held onto it. @Steven you know LIONS Don't rule, as if they did they would be at the top of the log. Catch a wake up.

  • @ Gappies ( Small Sharkies) - 2010-09-28 13:07

You dirty *ucker, i see its not only the bulls that play the man sonder die bal? At least 6 weeks.. they should stomp on his *ucken head the dirty mother *ucker

  • Wessel - 2010-09-28 13:09

He stamped on the player, plain and simple.

  • BC - 2010-09-28 13:13

I thought citing had to be done within 24 hours, or is that just for S14 and Tri Nations? Not significant enough for a citing anyway, time to stop trying to make rugby a real naffy game and time to stop using the citing rule as a tactical move to try and get significant players off the pitch for a while. The refs saw it, and yellow carded him. Enough! Now get on with the game.If the ref doesn't see the foul or a player is hurt then cite, but not after a player and a team has already been penalised. This is just stupid, some official on an ego trip trying to impress us that he's doing his job.

  • Deon - 2010-09-28 13:16

The Lions were the better team. I am a Shark supporter, and yes, the Lions are back in full glory. Actualy nice to see the Lions win again. Go Lions, but please next time, let our Sharks win. Go Sharks, you can still show them.

  • Nigel - 2010-09-28 13:18

I do not condone foul play, but the law needs to be looked at. There are a number of incidents around the loose, that can be deemed foul play, i.e the amount of times players take out supporting players with shoulder charges, head butts etc, holding onto players behind the ball and diving over the maul, the amount of hands in at the loose and turnovers that should never be allowed. Obviously if you keep on getting away with it the opposition eventually will retaliate. ps. I am a Sharks Supporter and proud of it. Koff was disciplined so why the citing ??? Can someone please explain.

  • FOTA - 2010-09-28 13:21

What about Martin Bezuidenhout and his punch which should have been a red card?. Seems that the punishment is a little uneven?

  • Paddy - 2010-09-28 13:22

Foul play has to removed from the game, and if citing is the way to do it, then sobeit. All we ask for is consistency.....and that is a big issue, because so many players get away with foul play. And good players like Kanko aren't so 'lucky'.

  • CJay - 2010-09-28 13:27

What about citing the ref and both linesmen. Some ridiculous calls, both ways. Do the refs all use their own interpretation on timing when setting scrums and Mr Jaftha, have you not heard of the rule about going off your feet at ruck time, which clearly the Sharks do not comply with?

  • nmf@fairplay - 2010-09-28 13:33

I agree the player should be cited, If it was for a red card offence. Koff got a yellow as recommended by the Assistant Referee to the Match Referee, served his 10 mins as recommended by the Assistant Referee to the Match Referee, SO WHY THE CITING, I bet that this comes from another interfering official that has not much else to do. Smacks of smoke screening here, a long hard look needs to made at some of the poor decision making by the match officials, (lets call them mistakes), possibly to take the focus away from them. Least we forget, Rugby is not for sissies, go play football, plenty of opportunity there for duck and diving.

  • hasie is dof - 2010-09-28 13:38

Hasie, jy's so dom soos grond. Kankowski is 'n vuilg@t. Verban die ding vir 'n maand.

  • James1 - 2010-09-28 13:44

The boot of Kankowski to the mid section of the Lions player was malicious and he should be punished. Anyone that played rugby knows that.

  • Byron - 2010-09-28 13:53

Has the Lions Hooker been cited? Late Tackle, and then a couple of punches around the head of sykes?

  • blou bul - 2010-09-28 13:58

he is useless so what is the point of moaning and groaning? wish they could trap that f***** no 6 of the sharks into the ground as well

  • Sharks fan - 2010-09-28 14:12

Lion supporters stop being so churlish you won. The biggest majourity of us Sharks suporters, on all rugby sites, have congratulated you and fully agree that the Lions deserved the win. • Marius - 2010-09-28 14:22

Kank can stomp on whoever he wants! That Lions guy should of first asked if he could hold on to Kanks leg - can't get local like that with KANK THE TANK!!! haha :)

  • Bugger - 2010-09-28 14:33

The coaches can agree to what they like. It is up the head of referee at SARU to put the two officials on the carpet and explain.

  • who cares - 2010-09-28 14:59

@ Sharks Fan 2:12pm - Well said! I'm a proud Cheetahs Fan - and no, not worried .... yet.

  • Alan - 2010-09-28 15:07

  • Anti-Shark - 2010-09-28 15:14

Typical, typical, typical of the sharks and of Kanko. A filthy player, and a filthy team. Nothing ever changes.

  • Boss Barry - 2010-09-28 15:27

Shame you sharkies are a bunch of cry babies HE HE HE HE

  • Sharks Fan - 2010-09-28 16:00

@ Blou Bul - Typical all brawn no brain comment blou bul! Lets see if you know what our no. 6's name is. And by your comment one would assume that Spies showered himself in glory this trinations! What a plonker!

  • Piet - 2010-09-28 16:09

Skankowski !!!!!!! Typical of him and not surprised its a Sharks player! Sour bunch from Durbs! Worst rugby supporters also! Go Lions!!!! HAHAHA!!

  • @Piet - 2010-09-28 18:18

Are you a Bulls fan or what? Kanko has a perfect record re foul play! You all had a good laugh when Bakkies slapped him in the face! Double standards like always! And at least Kanko can tackle not like Steriods Spies! Who thinks that when another player sees him they gonna stop in their tracks because they supposed to be scared of his artificial muscles!

  • Sharks_chic - 2010-09-28 19:52

Kanko is brilliant, you all only have crap to say out of frustration coz you wish he played for your teams !!! Ryan and Keegan forever !! Sharks will whip it in the currie cup - just watch

  • Sharkette - 2010-09-28 20:30

@ anti shark at least this player is not sitting in prison for killing a cop, or for atempting to kill his wife, nor is he in for drugs. Neither did he miss the world cup because of steroids. Our coach was not caught sleeping with his friends wife. Yeah very clean unions yours

  • bigshark - 2010-09-28 21:06

Sharks still top of log! hehehehehehehe!

  • fishman - 2010-09-29 05:13

I am shocked and horrified at all the people who commented so negatively. You should be ashamed of yourselves for being so Provincial. Ultimately, we are all South Africans and we should be wise enough and big enough to be able to see through our Provincial colours to the most important issue of retaining the World Cup. To all of you who slate players from sides other than your own, grow up and try to be an adult for once in your life.

  • @ Sharkette - 2010-09-29 07:11

you forget to add Stealing players from other unions (while still under contract) a 26 year old going into retirment and then returning 4 months later Just ask this. If this was bakkies, 99% of the people on this page would have said, ban him for a year, but poor old kanko, he is so innocent. Sharks has their share of dirty players - Rory Windgat for example. I also believe the refs made a couple of mistakes in the game, but play your game, that one mistake in the 80th minute does not cost you the game. The sharks had 79 minutes to win it, now they complain about losing it.

  • Zion Pay - 2010-09-29 08:00

Ban him for the rest of the season in an attempt to wipe out SA dirt in rugby.

  • @Sharkette - 2010-09-29 08:00

Well played, put them in their place!!! Look how jealous all these non-Sharks are, they wish they had Kank to stomp on people for them, haha!!!
