Cape Town - Despite struggling with an ankle injury, Springbok flyhalf Handre Pollard will be in the Blue Bulls squad for their Currie Cup clash against Griquas in Pretoria on Saturday.
According to Beeld, Pollard was unable to train on Monday and Tuesday but will be on the bench for Saturday's clash at Loftus Versfeld, which the Bulls must win to reach the semi-finals.
Currie Cup regulations state that a player must have played at least one game in the competition to be allowed to play in the knockout rounds.
Therefore, Pollard will be on the bench for the clash against Griquas, with Jacques-Louis Potgieter to start at flyhalf.
Due to Springbok commitments Pollard has not featured in this year's Currie Cup but because he is not a contracted Springbok, the Bulls are allowed to utilise him.
JJ Engelbrecht will however not be available for the rest of the competition, the Bulls confirmed. The centre played Currie Cup rugby this year after losing his place in the Springbok squad, but because Engelbrecht is still a contracted Bok, he is not allowed to play for the remainder of the Currie Cup.
It is expected that Pollard will be able to start training on Thursday.
Kick-off for Saturday's clash at Loftus Versfeld is scheduled for 19:10.
