Ikey eyes spot at Griquas

Cape Town - University of Cape Town flyhalf Dean Grant has joined Griquas on a trial basis in the hope of landing a contract for the Currie Cup.

Grant, 25, was one of the stars in the Ikeys team that beat Pukke in the Varsity Cup final in Potchefstroom earlier this year.

According to Volksblad, he is one of three newcomers on trial at Griquas as they prepare for the upcoming Currie Cup season. The others are Maties utility back Craig Barry and Sharks centre Quinton Crocker.

Griquas face the Leopards in a friendly game in Vryburg on Thursday. Should the trio impress coach Hawies Fourie, they could land a contract for the Currie Cup.

Griquas start their Currie Cup campaign at home to the Sharks on Saturday, August 9.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
