Johannesburg - Springbok Bryan Habana has signed to stay at Western Province for another three years, turning down more lucrative offers from abroad.

Habana, who was last week linked to talks in Japan with the Kobe Steelers, has apparently decided to stay for less money than his previous contract at Western Province and will put all his focus on the Stormers Super Rugby campaigns.

It also keeps him in contention for a Springbok call-up even though his place is under threat from Bulls utility back Francois Hougaard.

Habana’s agent Craig Livingstone confirmed to that his client had signed with Western Province and was going nowhere.

While Jaque Fourie continues to be lured by the Kobe Steelers, where fellow Stormer Peter Grant plays his rugby, no decision on his future has been made yet.

Habana also rubbished the reports, which originated from Japan, on twitter.

“Heard yesterday that I am in talks with some Japanese clubs??!?? That's the 1st I've heard of it!!” Habana tweeted on the matter.

“Amazing how some journalists can write the biggest load of nonsense to create sensationalism & then never apologise or correct their wrongs!”

Habana’s contract extention begins at the end of the Currie Cup.

If you're a WP supporter, then not.

Feels sorry for Stormers/WP - the fact that he is willing to take a pay cut shows how desperate he is given his useless play since moving there!!

      Lionel - 2011-10-17 08:28

I would have maybe given him a year contract but three.....thats way to much!!!!!!!!!

Come on Bulls fans. Your team is no longer in the running. Please stop voting for them in the Sport 24 poll on who will win the CC.

It's because they refuse to believe they are out and WP is still in.

"Habana’s agent Craig Livingstone confirmed ... that his client ... was going nowhere." Absolutely agree! This man's in the way of younger talented players. But he has to make way for the post-Bok days...

      Jason - 2011-10-17 15:24

Who is he in the way of at WP where he has signed his contract? JJ Engelbrecht is headed to Blue Bulls. Province are thin on the ground for wings! I for one am glad he is there. With all the youngsters coming through we will need the old hands to ease the transition.

Province is really becoming the province for all the hasbeens. Willing to pay thousands for players who had their best days, but are not prepared to keep the up and coming stars. They are picked up by the other provinces, and then help these provinces to keep us from winning any major competitions. No wonder it's 11 years and counting.....
