Kimberley - Griquas won their second successive Currie Cup fixture, as they beat the Sharks 22-15 in Kimberley on Saturday.

Griquas drew first blood as flyhalf Francois Brummer kicked his first penalty of the afternoon just five minutes into the contest.

The Sharks started brightly but only got going after Brummer's penalty, with Meyer Bosman levelling the scores after a solid rolling maul resulted in a Griquas infringement, leaving Meyer with an easy attempt.

Griquas continued at a frantic pace and put the Sharks under immense pressure, converting that pressure into points when flanker Marnus Schoeman dove over after a good rolling maul from five metres out.

Bosman brought his side back within four points after Schoeman went off his feet at the break down and the centre successfully converted the resulting penalty.

In the dying minutes of the first period, Griquas started to build a handy lead, with Brummer kicking two further penalties -- including one from 60 metres out -- to make sure Griquas entered the break as leaders with the score at 16-9.

The Sharks returned from the break fired up and kept themselves in the game from the boot of Bosman, who settled for penalties, as his side struggled to break the hosts' defence.

Griquas eighthman Leon Karemaker received a yellow card for a professional fowl in the 50th minute in a lapse in discipline, but the Sharks failed to convert and instead gave away too many penalties themselves.

The Sharks finally scored in the 72nd minute through fullback Louis Ludik, but the try was disallowed after the television match official confirmed obstruction by the visitors.

That set the Sharks back, and they started playing negatively, which resulted in further penalties for Brummer.

The flyhalf kicked five from five -- as did Bosman -- but the try made all the difference in the end.

Griquas 22 (16): Tries: Marnus Schoeman. Conversions: Francois Brummer. Penalties: Francois Brummer 5.

Sharks 15 (9): Penalties: Meyer Bosman 5.
