Cape Town - Western Province received some good news on the injury front with the availability of three key forwards for their clash against the Leopards at Newlands on Saturday.
Matt Proudfoot, WP's forwards coach confirmed to Die Burger newspaper that hooker Deon Fourie, loose forward Siya Kolisi and lock Adriaan Fondse are again available for selection.
Fourie's broken nose has healed sufficiently, Kolisi has recovered from a hamstring injury he sustained against the Lions a few weeks ago, while Fondse returns from a lengthy elbow injury.
Province will welcome the return of these players, especially after receiving a double blow on Monday when it was revealed that eightman Duane Vermeulen probably won't play rugby again this year and flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis will miss their match against the Leopards due to a right bicep injury.
Proudfoot also revealed that he might consider giving Wicus Blaauw a start at loosehead prop in place of the 19-year old Steven Kitshoff.
"He (Blaauw) and Steven are still very young, and if we manage them correctly, we will have two top notch loosehead props for the future," said Proudfoot.
Proudfoot is also chuffed with the way WP's scrum has improved over the last couple of months - especially after the mauling the Stormers' scrum took at the hands of the Crusaders in the Super Rugby semi-final.
"I told Tiaan (Liebenberg,WP's captain and hooker) on the bus over the weekend that our scrummaging took two steps forward during this Currie Cup competition."
