Bloemfontein – Free State’s Robert Ebersohn may have a new centre partner in Saturday’s Currie Cup match against the Blue Bulls in Pretoria.
There is some concern about the availability of Springbok centre Meyer Bosman and he may be replaced by Corné Uys.
Bosman, playing inside centre, suffered a light concussion in Friday’s 33-26 win over Griquas. He trained with his team-mates on Monday, but first had to avoid contact on the recommendation of team doctor Ian Morris.
Backline coach Hawies Fourie said a call on Bosman would be made on Tuesday.
Uys replaced Bosman against Griquas and was one of the home team’s top performers. He gave the backline strike power and often tested the defence with powerful runs.
It also appeared as if he and Ebersohn were complementing one another well in midfield and the coaching team will be delighted with Uys’s enthusiasm and form while there is uncertainty over Bosman.
Bosman and Uys were a settled combination for the Cheetahs in the Super 14, but injuries and good form by Ebersohn gave him the No 13 jersey.
Meanwhile, lock Nico Breedt will be out of action for the next six months. A statement by the Free State Rugby Union says that Breedt has a neck injury and is not allowed contact for six months.
