Cape Town - Springbok and Stormers No 8 Duane Vermeulen has been named as the Western Province Rugby Union's best forward player of the year.
The 28-year-old had a stellar season with the Stormers and followed that up with a memorable season for the Springboks.
He has established himself as the top No 8 in the country and his man-of-the-match performance against the All Blacks at Ellis Park last week will live long in the memory of every Springbok fan, especially given the fact that he played the match with a cracked rib cartilage.
Western Province held their annual awards evening on Tuesday night when Vermeulen received the award.
Another Springbok, Damian de Allende, received the best backline player award, while loose forward Nizaam Carr walked off with two big prizes - the MVP Award and the prestigious Players' Player of the Year award
