Cape Town - Western Province coach John Dobson has heaped praise on the Union’s Craven Week side that dismantled Eastern Province 95-0 in Saturday’s main game of the tournament in Stellenbosch.
Dobson, currently in the middle of Currie Cup preparations, believes that there is something very special about the current crop of Under-18s.
“That is one of those golden generations … it’s a freak side,” said Dobson.
“Those two locks … I always look at a team by the size of their locks and when you see (Salmaan) Moerat and (Reuben) De Villiers ... wow … I think it’s very healthy.
“I felt a bit sheepish when we went and lost (19-6 against the Pumas on Saturday) and they went and won 95-0.”
Dobson also commented on the racial make-up of the side.
“The nice thing about that team is that it was 50/50 and they never had a conversation about numbers and they’ve gone and won the Craven Week final by 95 points,” said Dobson.
“And that is the model for Western Province rugby going forward.”
Western Province are in action this Saturday when they take on the EP Kings in another pre-season friendly in Port Elizabeth.
