Cronje, Cooper back for Sharks

Durban - Sharks coach John Plumtree has made two changes to the starting line-up for Friday’s Currie Cup match against Griquas scheduled for 19:10 at Kings Park in Durban.

According to Sharks website editor Michael Marnewick, Ross Cronje will start at scrumhalf and Kyle Cooper comes in at hooker, while the Sharks are boosted by the return from injury of Wiehahn Herbst, Ross Skeate and Charl McLeod who are all named among the replacements.

"Ross Cronje comes in at nine, I’m giving him a start this week and Charl McLeod is on the bench while Conrad Hoffmann drops out of the match 22 this week," explained Plumtree when naming his team.

"Craig Burden hurt himself during the week and is out of this match which means Kyle Cooper will start at hooker and Monde Hadebe from the Sharks Under-21s comes onto the bench.”

Plumtree admitted that it was disappointing losing Burden to injury, especially at this stage of the Sharks campaign.

"It’s a big shame that we have lost Craig Burden, he’s been going really well, but Kyle Cooper has also been good off the bench and this is a good opportunity for him to show what he can do. But injuries like Craig’s are really disappointing at this time of the year when we’re approaching the business end of the season."

Approaching the business end of the tournament, a good performance from the Sharks against what is likely to be a very tough, determined Griquas team will do their campaign the world of good in the tussle for top positions.

"We’re looking for a big step-up this weekend, we’ve got a run of home games, two before we go away and then the last at home so the boys are really excited about pushing hard to pick up some wins to take us through to the knock-out stages,” the Sharks coach concluded.
