Concussion rules out Ludik

2010-08-26 16:45

Durban - Louis Ludik has failed to come through a concussion test and has been ruled out of the Sharks' match against Griquas at the Absa Stadium on Friday night, with Monty Dumond replacing him at fullback.

In other big news, former Springbok flyhalf Andre Pretorius is set to make his Sharks debut off the bench after having undergone extensive rehabilitation for an injury over the last few weeks.

Dumond replaced Ludik at fullback last weekend when the latter suffered a sickening blow to the head and had to be stretchered from the field during the Sharks' match against Western Province.

Although Ludik has responded well this week, he failed to come through a final fitness test on Thursday and it has been decided not to risk him.

There are no other changes to the backline, with Andries Strauss having overcome a shoulder injury to retain his spot at inside centre.

Among the forwards, there is only a re-shuffle in the loose-trio, with the loss of Ryan Kankowski to the Boks resulting in Keegan Daniel coming into the No 8 jersey, with Willem Alberts and Jacques Botes named as the flanks.

Anton Bresler will provide second row cover from the bench after Ross Skeate suffered a groin injury during a gym session during the week, while Mike Rhodes can cover both lock and loose-forward.

The Sharks:

Monty Dumond, Odwa Ndungane, Stefan Terblanche (Captain), Andries Strauss, Lwazi Mvovo, Patrick Lambie, Charl McLeod, Keegan Daniel, Willem Alberts, Jacques Botes, Alistair Hargreaves, Steven Sykes, Wiehahn Herbst, Bismarck du Plessis, Tendai Mtawarira

Replacements: Craig Burden, Eugene van Staden, Anton Bresler, Michael Rhodes, Rory Kockott, Andre Pretorius, Riaan Swanepoel

Well thats that, you will not find me supporting any Sharks team that has that useless waste of space Pretorius taking up a position one of our many talented youngsters should be supporting, gonna have to start supporting the Cheetahs from now on.

"disappointed" do you give up in life just as easy! At this stage its experience that counts! Even if he just lasts this game! Just glad fat swanepoel is on the bench and Strauss in inside center!

I tend to agree about Pretorius. However there seems to be a phenomenon with teh Sharks that when we take other teams "rejects" they do well. When other franchises take Sharks players they fade. There are plenty of examples; Gaffie du Toit, Brent Russell, Luke Watson... all play well for the Sharks. Suck elsewhere. Percy was hopeless till he came to the Sharks. We might see Andre playing well soon enough.

You support a team not a player... Andre still have some rugby left in him.. I do hope that you "disappointed" will start supporting the Cheetahs as the sharks does not need a supporter like you, I wonder if you even really know what is going on a rugby field..

Remarkable! Why dont the Sharks management simply take the doctor and his opinion on arbitration. Simple, they relied on some tecnicality to get him in the first place, so there must be some technicality on which they can rely to make Ludik play...
