Cape Town - The Cheetahs coaches have made sure their players won't pull up with cramps - like last week - when they take on the Sharks in a crucial Currie Cup clash in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
A few of their players struggled late on in their game last week against the Blue Bulls at the Free State Stadium. The Bulls snatched a late draw via a long-range penalty from flyhalf Louis Fouché.
The Free Staters seemed in control of proceedings, leading 22-12 with 10 minutes remaining.
The cramps alone probably cannot be blamed, but Cheetahs assistant coach Hawies Fourie assured the Volksblad newspaper that they have taken precautionary measures to ensure it doesn't happen again.
Prop forward Coenie Oosthuizen, wing Riaan Smit and flyhalf Johan Goosen all cramped up towards the end of the game.
Fourie said Cheetahs fitness coach, Niel du Plessis, has prohibited the players to drink any additional energy drinks. The players have also been instructed to drink more water during their practice sessions this week and are only allowed to use their official PVM-supplements. PVM is the official supplement provider to the Cheetahs.
Apparently, in the past, water bottles were shared amongst the players. This will no longer be the case, as every player now has his own numbered water bottle.
The Cheetahs' game against the Sharks kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday.
