Cheetahs suffer double blow

Brenden Nel - SuperSport

Johannesburg - The Toyota Cheetahs were dealt a double blow when injuries robbed them of two of their stars ahead of Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup match against log leaders, the Golden Lions.

Both captain Andries Strauss and fullback Hennie Daniller were ruled out of contention with injury, leaving coach Naka Drotske with a bit of reshuffling to do ahead of the match.

Strauss, who limped off against Western Province fearing the worst, was happy not to have torn ligaments in his ankle but rather had a bad sprain which will keep him out of action for about a month.

Daniller, on the other hand, has a laceration of the left knee, and is expected to sit out for at least two weeks as he recovers.

Strauss is likely to be replaced by Corne Uys in the midfield, while Drotske still has to decide on a successor for Daniller.

The good news though is that Jongi Nokwe looks set to return to action next week after a long injury layoff.
