Johannesburg - Springbok Davon Raubenheimer will officially become a Free State player on 1 November this year, after he signed a two year contract with the franchise.
Raubenheimer, who played a starring role in the Cheetahs best ever Vodacom Super Rugby season this year, will complete the move from Griquas where has been contracted for the past few years.
After rumours that Riaan Viljoen will be heading to Western Province to further his career, and Sarel Pretorius has committed his future to the Waratahs, the move will continue to deplete Griquas, who have become a victim of the Cheetahs success.
For coach Naka Drotské, the acquisition of Raubenheimer ensures he cannot be snatched away by another Super Rugby franchise with a tough 2012 season approaching.
James Adams, Raubenheimer's agent, had the following comment on behalf of his client: "Davon would like to thank Griquas and the management for the support over the years and for all their input in helping him grow and develop as a better player. Davon has always wanted to go on and play for a bigger union in South Africa and this is an opportunity he could not turn down."
This means that Drotské will have at least four Springboks available in his loose trio for next year - with Raubenheimer joining Kabamba Floors, Heinrich Brüssow (whose contract still needs to be finalised) and Juan Smith.
