Cheetahs crush lowly Leopards

Johannesburg - The Free State Cheetahs thrashed the home side in Potchefstroom beating the Leopards 64-17 in their Absa Currie Cup match on Saturday.

The Cheetahs outscored the home side by nine tries to two and had the result sealed by half time.

The tries continued to flooded in and, in the second half, the Cheetahs scored a further six while the Leopards scored two.

Two first half tries by Free State prop Coenie Oosthuizen and another by number eight Boom Prinsloo sent the visiting side into the break with a 24-3 lead.

The Cheetahs started the second half by scoring two tries in nine minutes, with the other Cheetahs prop Marcel van der Merwe crossing the line.

Oosthuizen scored a second try while Philip Burger, Cameron Jacobs, Hercu Liebenberg, Riaan Smit and Philip Snyman also touched down.

In the 58th minute, the Leopards scored their first try of the match through Whestley Moolman. They scored their second try late in the game, courtesy of Joubert Engelbrecht. Wesley Dunlop was successful with both conversions and a penalty.

The Cheetahs ran away with the encounter as the Leopards remain at the bottom of the Currie Cup log.
