Bulls grant Flip an early release

Cape Town - The Blue Bulls have opted to grant Springbok lock Flip van der Merwe an early release from his contract.

Van der Merwe, 30, had earlier in the year signed with French Top 14 side Clermont, but was only due to join them after the completion of this year’s Currie Cup.

The 36-Test capped veteran was in camp with the Springboks in recent weeks but failed to make the final 31-man World Cup squad.

The Bulls have done well in his absence in recent weeks and therefore decided to bank on their youngsters and release Van der Merwe from his contract, supersport.com reports.

An official announcement regarding the matter is expected later on Wednesday.
