Bulls did jersey proud - Pine

2012-08-26 15:35

Johannesburg - Blue Bulls coach Pine Pienaar hailed his team after they fought off defeat and illness in their 42-31 Currie Cup victory over the Sharks at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday night.

Half of the Bulls team had been struck down by flu, which restricted them to only one training session in the week before the match.

“Coming from a loss to the Cheetahs and coming from a week where we actually had no training… they’ve done well and done the blue jersey and the supporters proud,” Pienaar said.

The Sharks entered the encounter as the only unbeaten team in the early stages of the Currie Cup season.

The result ensured a congested log at the end of the third week of competition, with three teams level on nine points and only three points separating the top three from the fifth side in the standings.

Sharks coach John Plumtree acknowledged that the Bulls were the better team in what he described as an entertaining match.

“We just weren’t accurate tonight," Plumtree said.

"They put us under pressure when they kicked off to us, and our line-outs didn’t function properly.

“So the basics of our game weren’t good enough to win that contest.

“In fairness to the Bulls, they were pretty good, they dominated the collision area and they bullied us a bit at times.”

The match highlighted flyhalf Louis Fouché’s class as he contributed 27 points to the home side’s score.

The 22-year-old playmaker's ball distribution was crisp and he was a constant thorn in the Sharks’ side with his canon-like kicking boot.

Really hated watching the bulls win, but they did good Pine. Keep it up !! My stormers had a decent game, but wasnt good enough, maybe next time.

And now Kolisi is out for the season! Could this weekend get any more awesome?

I am eating VERY humble pie. Sorry for doubting you Pine - I hope we can keep this up, it really was an impressive win!

      Priesterb - 2012-08-26 17:11

rinus Agreed. I also doubt Pienaar’s ability but will only apologize and eat humble pie once I'm certain the Bulls’ great performance was not a flash in the pan.

@rinus, good on you for 'eating humble pie' - some respect restored in your comments. @Priester, 'no flash in the pan' - only the beginning of greatness for the Bulls - LoL.... Louis Fouche displayed a great amount of flair last night, good to see and it will do his confidence the world of good. When I think of CJ leaving at the end of the season, I actually just want to cry. He should be with the Bokke, he is a fantastic player.

...CJ Stander..! ..wow.. ...what a boykie...!!!

  • madelein.delange2 - 2012-08-26 16:29

Pity, they didn't do the Bok jersey proud. Absolutely rubbish performance by Morne (yet again). Please send him back to the Bulls.

      rinus.groeneveld.7 - 2012-08-26 16:34

I'm not sure we want him back right now. Nor do we want Kirchner or Potgieter back. I would have like to have CJ back next year though....

      Priesterb - 2012-08-26 17:06

madelein, which game did you watch? Stop blaming Morne. The whole Bok team was crap and Bekker was most definitely the weakest link, closely followed by Hougie. It is a fact that a poor performance by number 9 will adversely affect 10 and the whole backline and team. Blou Bul Groete!

      rinus.groeneveld.7 - 2012-08-26 17:20

The whole Bok team was crap. Period.

      Leon E Young - 2012-08-26 18:08

      the bulls won with penalties

      Taurus.Blue1 - 2012-08-26 18:34

@raven, lot of 'experts' on these sites lately. Bashing Bulls players have become a 'part time sport' for most 'experts' on the rugby sport blogs. @madelein, shame, the extend of your comment clearly display that your knowledge of rugby is 'admirable'! Even Nick Mallet said the 'great Dan Carter' would have struggled last night. But if you (and the other cronies) sleep better at night by ALWAYS blaming Bulls players, go for it. No harm, no foul - I just feel pity.

Blame the Barberton Daisy, Vodacom, Puma, Nike, Audi, Oasys, Loftus, HM, Pine, Pretoria, Voortrekkers, and the Rolling Stones

    Well done Bulls

      blou.johnny - 2012-08-26 23:26
