Cape Town - Springbok Sevens star Boom Prinsloo has been elevated to the Cheetahs' starting line-up for their clash against the Sharks in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
Philip van der Walt - who was initially picked at flank - pulled out of the side due to a head injury he sustained in their 22-all draw to the Blue Bulls over the weekend.
According to the Volksblad newspaper, Van der Walt was not 100% during the Cheetahs' training session on Wednesday, which prompted the Cheetahs coaches not to risk him.
Johan Wessels will come in as loose forward cover on the bench.
"Philip still had an headache this morning (Wednesday) after he trained with Niel du Plessis (The Cheetahs' fitness coach)," said Cheetahs assistant coach Hawies Fourie.
Even though Van der Walt's injury is a setback ahead of a crucial Currie Cup clash, the Free Staters are confident in the abilities of Sevens Bok, Prinsloo.
Prinsloo replaced Van der Walt in the 27th minute against the Bulls and was one of the star performers.
Despite mostly being a replacement in this year's Currie Cup, Prinsloo is one of the leading try scorers in the competition. Only the red-hot Western Province centre, Johann Sadie (6) has scored more tries.
Prinsloo, together with Bulls scrumhalf Jano Vermaak, Cheetahs prop Marcel van der Merwe and Lions wing Deon van Rensburg, lie in second position on the try-scoring list.
And the Free Stater will be hoping he could add to that number against the KwaZulu-Natalians on Saturday.
Teams:
Free State Cheetahs: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Riaan Smit, 13 Robert Ebersohn, 12 Philip Snyman, 11 Cameron Jacobs, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Pieter van Zyl, 8 Ashley Johnson, 7 Boom Prinsloo, 6 Lappies Labuschagné, 5 Izak van der Westhuizen, 4 Francois Uys, 3 Coenie Oosthuizen, 3 Adriaan Strauss (captain), 1 Marcel van der Merwe.
Substitutes: 16 Hercu Liebenberg, 17 Trevor Nyakane, 18 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 19 Johan Wessels, 20 Tewis de Bruyn, 21 Sias Ebersohn, 22 Philip Burger.
