Bookies back WP for title

Cape Town - Western Province will beat the Blue Bulls in the final of the 2010 Currie Cup, if leading SA bookmakers are to be believed...

Bookies SportingBet have installed WP as favourites to win their first Currie Cup title since 2001 - and can be backed at 13/8.

The Blue Bulls are on offer at 15/8, while the table-topping Sharks are available at 12/5. The Free State Cheetahs are an attractive-looking 12/1 proposition.

However, before any talk of an overall winner can be taken seriously, the finalists will need to safely negotiate what on paper at least, promises to be two titanic semi-finals.

The Blue Bulls are 3/4 favourites to beat the Sharks in the first semi in Durban (kick-off 14:30). The Sharks are on offer at 6/5, while the draw after 80 minutes can be backed at 18/1.

The Springbok-laden Stormers backline in particular has bookies punting the home side (3/10) to beat visitors to Newlands, the Cheetahs (14/5), in Saturday's second semi-final (kick-off 17:00). The draw after full-time can be backed at 14/1.

Whatever the outcomes, whomever you support, it promises to be a champagne day of Currie Cup rugby.
