Bookies: WP narrow victors

Cape Town - Bookmakers have installed Western Province as narrow favourites to win the Currie Cup final against the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:30.

The last time these teams met in the Currie Cup final was in 2001 where WP emerged victorious. This was also the last time WP won the Currie Cup with the Sharks winning more recently in 2008. There is no doubt that both teams will be hungry to secure the world’s oldest, and arguably most prestigious domestic rugby title, on Saturday.

In spite of the Sharks' home ground advantage, the SA bookies SportingBet have this one narrowly in favour of the Springbok-laded Western Province outfit. WP have a one point handicap and enjoy slightly shorter odds than the Sharks for the win.

WP can be backed at 5/6 for the victory, while the Sharks are on offer at 21/20. The draw after 80 minutes is 14/1.

With the match expected to be a tight affair, a winning margin bet perhaps promises the best value.

WP to win by 1-5 points is on offer at 9/2, while the Sharks to win by 1-5 can be backed at 5/1.
