Blue Bulls lock Flip cited

2010-08-02 11:47

Johannesburg - Lions flank Trevor Hall, Blue Bulls lock Flip van der Merwe and SWD Eagles centre Sinethemba Zweni, will appear before SARU judicial committees on Tuesday after being cited for foul play during their Currie Cup games this weekend.

Van der Merwe was cited for punching or striking an opponent. The Blue Bulls lock punched the Lions hooker Martin Bezuidenhout in the face with his left fist during the third minute of the game.

The Blue Bulls defeated the Lions 32-18.

Hall was cited for acts contrary to good sportsmanship. The Lions flank was on top of Van der Merwe during the 81st minute of the match and with his open hands made contact in his face, near the eye area.

Zweni was cited for lifting an unidentified Griffons player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground.

The incident occurred in the 19th minute of the game. The SWD Eagles defeated the Griffons 18-14 in this Currie Cup First Division match.

The judicial hearings of all three players will take place on Tuesday at the Johannesburg Stadium from 09:30.

There was nothing in Flip's punch. Balsak has hit his wife harder than that.

  • GP - 2010-08-02 12:10

And where is kankowski's siting? He gave a good b%tch-slap on Saturday.

  • Grant - 2010-08-02 12:12

Ag no not another Blou Bul Tril in kak for acting like a thug? he should be cited 3 times, Flip hit #2 in the scrum thats why he came out of the scrum going for him. flip then had a cheeky little left hook that would not even drop my grandmother at #2. later he shoulder charged a man in the air.. this guy is a Bakkies in the making, I bet he will be in the Bok team soon...

  • BALSAK(alias Blue Bul Hater) - 2010-08-02 12:14

  • piet pompies - 2010-08-02 12:14

Bakkies, Mattfield, Rossouw, Van der merwe All bulls ass holes cannot play a game without being dirty

  • Megabull - 2010-08-02 12:15

Only now 24 hours after the match? Is that not illegal? You only have 24 hours to site someone?

  • piet pompies - 2010-08-02 12:16

What about Kanko blatantly hitting the one Cheetah player ?

  • LoudMouth - 2010-08-02 12:25

    GOOD!!! Bakkies' understudy!!

  • BALSAK(alias Blue Bul Hater) - 2010-08-02 12:35

  • FOCUS - 2010-08-02 12:38

hopefully this is not another Bakkies Bothat in the making...

  • MCITP - 2010-08-02 12:39

There is no need for punching in rugby doesnt matter how ruff the game gets. The punch that Flip gave to the hooker wasnt that bad but a punch stays a punch doesnt matter if u knocked the guy out or not. 2 weeks out of the game should help the man think about his sins.

  • bbh - 2010-08-02 12:40

I would expect nothing less of any Blue Bulls player. It seems to be in their blood. What a bunch of brainless wankers.

  • bulawayo-based-bok - 2010-08-02 12:41

if he sorts out his discipline this guy could be a huge asset for the boks in the future.....he has the right coaching and is a monster of a man!!!

  • Sharkie :-) - 2010-08-02 12:46

No need to say anything else, further statements might get ugly responses from the typical bull supporters.

  • kevan - 2010-08-02 12:49

this is become a habit of Blue Bulls players, they produce the dirtiest players with major attitudes.

  • WP jou lekka ding! - 2010-08-02 12:50

  • Stormer - 2010-08-02 12:55

Ok so it is definatly a bulls thing.. they just cant seem to play a clean game. they are just so lucky that they have tons of spare locks. some might even think that the reason they have so many spares is because they know their locks are always being banned

  • Dean - 2010-08-02 13:02

Gee imagine a lock from the Blue Bulls being cited for foul/ditry play...what a surprise!!

  • shade' cleland - 2010-08-02 13:09

hey how are you today and what are you up to and my fav team is the blue buls

  • Kankowski? - 2010-08-02 13:13

Ryan Kankowski punshed Coenie Oosthuizen straight on the eye.. Did nobody see that? I am a Sharks fan, and even I'd admit that that was blatant and clearly visible on TV, I saw it 3x on PVR.

  • David - 2010-08-02 13:17

And why isn't Ryan Kankowski cited? I saw him give some player from the freestate a good slap in the face!

  • Henry - 2010-08-02 13:20

this is great! The springboks suck cos most of them are bulls and the bulls suck cos they have no "good" bull players in their team....then also the biggest embarrassment for the Springboks is a bulls player, Bakkies! Hahaha... To see a team that was so windgat and now they are the lowest of the low... I'm loving this!!

  • Again! - 2010-08-02 13:49

When will these idiots who call themselves the Bulls ever listen and play within the rules. When will the referees stop letting these thugs get away with this stupidity? Dirty players = BB’s and that is the main reason why everything went wrong on the Boks tour as well. It started with Bakkies followed by Donkey Rossouw. Now this clown, also part of the BOERbokke is as dirty as his heroes! I had a little bit of hope for this clown but he proofed me wrong again. NEVER trust a BB player am so sick and tired hearing before every fkn game about the “physical presence” of the BB players and the ‘domination up front” and then the “enforcer” k@k! It sure looked like the mighty BB forwards did it for the Boks....LOL and with 2 losses in the CCup already it sure as hell doesn’t seem as if they dominate their as well!?The days of dumb rugby players is over just as kicking useless fly halves like Tortoise Steyn and one dimensional idiots like all BB no 15’s (catch, run 10 metres and kick ball as high as possible) I cannot wait to see how the mighty BB’s fall apart in 2011 S14 after losing out on the CCup this year as well! The Sharks will smoke the Bulls any day, anywhere and so will WP. Get rid of the VUILGAT BB players like Bakkies, Rossouw, Kuun, Stegman, vd Merwe, Roux to mention a few. The players are, like their tappet supporters, an embarrassment to SA Rugby.

  • Nico Rette - 2010-08-02 13:56

Consistently dirty player. What a waste of space that could rather be used for a talented player who actually tries to abide by the laws of the game. Bakkies at least adds value to a team when he doesn't slip up on the discipline. Hopefully Flip can sort himself out and realise that dirty play does not make you an enforcer.. it just makes you a poe$.

  • H@NNES - 2010-08-02 14:04

Reading this coment its seems like people say only Bulls Players are dirty and being cited. Maby I am a bit slow but last time I saw Jean and Jaques playing it wasnt for the Bulls.

  • Kanko - 2010-08-02 14:06

yes he slapped the player - but nothing happend to Bakkies last year when he slapped Kanko! Justice! And I think Kanko's good dicipline record would have been taken into account.

  • Wally - 2010-08-02 14:16

May I take a guess - most of (almost all) of the anti-Blue Bulls comments are from WP supporters. Julle is sommer 'n spul arrogante suurgatte!!!

  • Grant - 2010-08-02 14:22

One can only expect it form a blou bul, like it's supporters no brains. @ Blue Jake sounds like you are the wife beater? One can only imagine how dense you really are? huh

  • Dragonpig - 2010-08-02 14:24

Not another, this guy has potential but we don't need that in the game, as we saw with Drew Mitchells second yellow, stupid dirty play is punished so I wouldn't put him in the SA team if he's going to throw punches, a punch is a punch and is intended, doesn't matter if he hits like a farmer from Bethlehem or like a little poofter, it's still a punch. Kanko wasn't cited because if you watch it again he gave the guy a flatty for hanging onto his arm around the ruck, he tried to push him off and he wouldn't let go so he slapped him, it's not really dirty, it's a case of trying to get someone off you

  • Flip @ Bul Supporters - 2010-08-02 14:35

Ek is baie jammer dat ek so dom was, moet nie my ma se nie asseblief oues.

  • Neil - 2010-08-02 14:39

@Again!.....yes we won the Super 14 AGAIN !! ...STFU

  • Bull Supporter - 2010-08-02 14:42

All of the nasty comments on the Blue Bulls you guys are making is just showing that you are either jealous or stupid. It is in any South African man's blood to play rough rugby. Your comments are proof of that. If any of you were on the field playing, you'd probably punch a guy before the game even started. And by the way, a good front row is not what wins a game, it's a good team. That is just one of the factors needed. So keep your nasty comments to yourself and leave ALL of South Africa's Rugby Players to do what they do best.

  • Pieti - 2010-08-02 14:44

It is understood your anger towards the Bulls. Because they have been winning everything for the past few years leaving the WP trophy case empty. The highest trees always catch the most wind. Moenie n suurgat wees nie

  • spindoc - 2010-08-02 14:48

WARNING!!!!I am not a Sharks or Blue Bulls supporter so I watched this game as a neutral person.....However!!!If Flip Van De Merwe is selected for the Bokke....we will have another Bakkies Botha...He is just plain dumb...he is another rugby thug and should be left aside unless we want to have another incident which will cost us dearly!!!

  • Philip - 2010-08-02 14:57

Again: So you can "again" not control your emotions when you "again" went off about the Bulls. I have no idea which team you are supporting, but I feel very, very sorry for that team. With supporters like you the team will most probably "again" not make it to the final. You want to win the Currie Cup? Do what the Cheetahs can do - go beat the Bulls in Pretoria. Proud Cheetah supporter!

  • Koos Kaap - 2010-08-02 14:58

Ha ha ha. In sy heel eerste toets 'n geel kaart. Nou is hy behoorlik in die k*k. Dit is jammer, want hy is talentvol. Boetman, kry vir jou 'n ander rolmodel. Oom Bakkies gaan jou net in die afgrond intrek.

  • jan van der merwe - 2010-08-02 15:09

Just n little thing.WP players are not that clean.Thinking of the last test against the AUSSIES.Schalk gouged the opponents eye again.Very strange that he was not cited for that. So please do not claim something that is not true....

  • @ WP jou lekka (k@k) ding - 2010-08-02 15:24

"Gee my 'n drukkie en moenie so hard tackle nie." KLOMP POEFTERS!!!

  • @ Balsak - 2010-08-02 15:41

Net so bietjie inligting vir jou, jou oningeligte idioom : " The competition had its humble beginnings as an inter-town competition in 1884, but when the South African Rugby Board was founded in 1889 it decided to organize a national competition that would involve representative teams from all the major unions. The participating unions were Western Province, Griqualand West, Transvaal and Eastern Province. The first tournament was held in Kimberley and was won by Western Province. As prize they received a silver cup donated by the South African Rugby Board, now displayed at the SA Rugby Museum in Cape Town. While local unions battled for the Currie Cup from 1892 onwards it would take decades for an annual competition to be established. After years of occasional tournaments, dominated by Western Province, South Africa’s premiere provincial spectacle kicked off in earnest in 1968. That year the Blue Bulls of Northern Transvaal, spearheaded by the legendary lock Frik du Preez, trampled neighbours Transvaal 16-3 in the final, heralding a period of overall dominance that has seen the men from Pretoria win the Currie Cup 16 times and share it on three occasions. This outstanding record is in no small part down to the most influential player to ever star in the competition – fly-half extraordinaire Naas Botha. Dictating play with supreme tactical awareness throughout a career that spanned three decades, Botha single-handedly kicked teams into submission, scoring all the Blue Bulls’ points (including four drop-goals) in 1987 as Transvaal were beaten 24-18 in the final. From when the Currie Cup became an annual competition until the mid-1980s only one team had seriously challenged the Bulls’ supremacy – arch rivals Western Province. " SIo wees maar "baie trots" op WP... Hulle kon net die beste wees toe die Bulls nie daar was nie...

  • park bankie - 2010-08-02 15:45

Flip vd Merwe speel sy rugby op die rugbyveld, ...en nie soos Andries Bekker op die park bankie met vreemde girls nie... ..en dan beseer hy homself ook nog op die park bankie... ....He he he..!! ...pooooofter...

  • Sharkie :-) - 2010-08-02 16:05

Ek het in my lewe nog nooit so n klomp snert en vuill taal gesien.

  • Gtr - 2010-08-02 16:37

@again: At it again? Were you one of the palookas saying way back in 2009 that the Bulls won't make it to the semis; then they wouldn't make it to the finals, then they wouldn't win the final, and then repeat the whole exercise in 2010... Now we're already hearing it for next year... Did you ever watch any S14 matches this year? The Stormers, who had a very good season, still didn't score as much tries as the Bulls did... How many bonus points did the Bulls score with all those tries. Nah, seems to me that once again, you prove your own biased provincial prejudice. Schalk Burger is not an angel, and were quite lucky to have not been cited. That Lions test? One minute into the match, and he got a yellow card. And Jean and Jaques both got suspended for tip tackles: Now how stupid is that? Rory Cockett and Keegan Daniel is also a bit too aggresive... That slap that Rory planted on Adam Thompson (?) are still doing it's rounds. And Bismarck... the less that is said about him, the better. Oh, and let's not forget about Butch...

  • @ Balsak - 2010-08-02 17:07
