Another loosie blow for WP

Cape Town - Western Province have lost another loose forward with flanker Tyrone Holmes ruled out injured.

Die Burger reports that Holmes has a shoulder injury which will keep him sidelined for two weeks.

This comes after news broke on Sunday that flanker Siya Kolisi will miss the rest of the season after breaking his thumb in WP's 26-23 loss to the Golden Lions in Johannesburg over the weekend.

They did, however, receive some good news on Monday when flank Rynhardt Elstadt was declared fit for their clash against the Blue Bulls at Newlands on Saturday. Elstadt was sidelined with a groin injury since the Stormers' Super Rugby semi-final loss to the Sharks in late July.

There's also the possibility that they could lose Duane Vermeulen. The fit-again loosie - who had a good 65 minutes against the Golden Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday - may be called up to the Springbok setup.

“Duane (Vermeulen), Jebb Sinclair, Rynhardt (Esltadt) and Deon Fourie should be the loose forwards in our group," coach Allister Coetzee said.

Maties skipper Helmut Lehmann has also been pulled in to cover at flank.

There's also still uncertainty over the return of No 8 Nick Koster - who's been out with a long-term knee injury and has again visited a knee specialist.

"It's really not going well with Nick. He's not where he should be in his recovery," said Coetzee.

WP are currently languishing at fifth spot on the overall log - two behind the fourth placed Blue Bulls - after their narrow 26-23 loss to the Lions.

Their clash against the Bulls at Newlands kicks off at 19:10 on Saturday.
