Johannesburg – Milestones are about as regular as brushing his teeth for Stefan Terblanche.
On Friday night Terblanche will celebrate another special moment since starting his Currie Cup career for Boland in 1996.
The Sharks’ match against the Pumas in Durban is Terblanche’s 100th Currie Cup outing.
Twenty-five of those games were for Boland.
Terblanche made his Sharks debut in the Currie Cup in 1999, but played for Welsh club Ospreys from 2003 until 2007. He played 87 games for them.
Following his return in 2007, he played his first Currie Cup game against Western Province. That was also his 100th game in any competition for the Sharks.
He scored two tries as fullback that day and was named man of the match.
Terblanche also completed his century of Super rugby games for the Sharks earlier this year.
Terblanche turned 35 earlier this month, but is still shining for the Sharks, whom he also captains in the Currie Cup.
Together with the 37 Tests he has played for the Springboks, Terblanche has played nearly 330 games in his senior career.
His centre partner is Patrick Lambie, who was only five years old when Nick Mallett handed Terblanche his Currie Cup debut.
Sharks coach John Plumtree has stuck to the starting line-up that laid the foundation for their win over the Blue Bulls.
The only change to the squad of 22 is the return from an ankle injury of Willem Alberts, who will be on the bench in place of Shkoliwe Ndlovu.
Plumtree wants the team to build on what was achieved against the Bulls.
“It’s going to be a challenge to reach the same heights as last week,” he said.
“The Pumas have big, physical players and the ability to score tries. They are a well-coached side and we’ll have to be switched on.”
