Ex-Springbok sued for R1m

Cape Town - A sports management company is claiming €79 200 (R1 million) from former Springbok and Blue Bulls hooker, Gary Botha.

According to the Beeld website, ABC Sports Management claims that Botha broke the contractual agreement he had with them when he signed for French club, Toulouse, in February 2011.

Botha's legal representative, Adv. Lafras Uys, on Monday appealed to the Pretoria High Court to dismiss the claim.

ABC claims that they had signed a two-year agreement with Botha on October 5, 2009 to exclusively represent him.

Botha then signed a three-year deal with Toulouse in February 2011, before reportedly cancelling his contract with ABC via e-mail on March 28, 2011.

The company now wants compensation from part of that contract Botha signed with Toulouse.

Acting judge Bert Bam will give judgement on the case on Wednesday morning.

The 32-year-old Botha, who played 12 Tests for the Boks, is still plying his trade with the French giants.
