Recent media reports have linked Coetzee with the job at the Steelers. He is seen as an ideal replacement for Gary Gold, who has decided to join the Sharks as Director of Rugby.
On Friday, the supersport.com website reported that the reports linking Coetzee to a job at the Steelers are more than just speculation.
The website reported that Coetzee made a firm commitment to replace Gold as Steelers coach and will link up with his new club once the Super Rugby season is over in July.
Coetzee comes off contract this year. According to supersport.com, he is understood to have been put out by the recruitment of former Bltizbok and Kenya Sevens coach Paul Treu as a Stormers assistant coach without the management being consulted, and has informed the Stormers hierarchy and his fellow management of his decision.
Coetzee spoke to the media on Friday night after the Stormers' 39-31 pre-season win over the Cheetahs at Newlands. There he insisted that his sole focus at present is on the Stormers' Super Rugby campaign.
"I'm still contracted to Western Province Rugby. I haven't signed any contract anywhere else, not even with Western Province,' Coetzee told SA Rugbymag. "My head is in this campaign - it's a massively important campaign for us."
The Stormers have one more pre-season game - against the Boland Cavaliers at Cape Town Stadium on February 7 - before opening their Super Rugby campaign against the Bulls in Pretoria on February 14.
