By Ockert de Villiers - Sondag
The French Neanderthal rugby lock Sebastien Chabal is ready to take on the might of the Springboks.
Afrikaans Sunday newspaper Sondag revealed that the Namibian Rugby Union are actively negotiating with Chabal to be part of the Nambian Invitation XV that will face the Springboks on May 29 in Windhoek in the warm-up game for the Boks before the British Lions tour.
Chabal’s possible inclusion comes a week after Sondag reported that Springboks Butch James and CJ van der Linde were invited to play for the Namibian team as well.
Namibian Rugby Union CEO Christo Alexander confirmed to the newspaper that he was looking to have Chabal in the game.
“We are going to talk to the French consulate and the French Rugby Union to get Chabal here,” he told Sondag.
The Namibian team are also looking to invite a top class scumhalf and fullback to strengthen the team. Namibian born fullback Percy Montgomery is their target for the fullback position, while Lions scrumhalf Jano Vermaak could be included at scrumhalf.
This is if Peter de Villiers does not decide to use Vermaak in his Springbok training squad.
Alexander said there was also a chance that several Springboks playing in Europe could be included in the team.
“We are trying everything in our power to make things easier for Peter de Villiers. We have also asked the referee who will officiate the first Test to take charge of the game so that the Springboks can get used to his style of handling the game,” Alexander told Sondag.
