Catrakilis signs with Kings

2012-09-20 10:24

Cape Town - Western Province flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis has signed a two-year deal with the Southern Kings.

Catrakilis has played for WP during the Currie Cup over the last two seasons, but has failed to make the Stormers squad in Super Rugby during this period. The lack of opportunities in Super Rugby are believed to be the main reason behind his decision to join the Eastern Cape franchise, according to the keo.co.za website.

Catrakilis will compete with George Whitehead and Wesley Dunlop for the No 10 jersey next season.

Catrakilis, 23, will join recent Southern Kings signings Cheetahs centre Andries Strauss and Sharks lock Steven Sykes next season.

2 year deal , so he wont be playing Super Rugby in 2014?

      tim.barkley.982 - 2012-09-20 12:03

they'll finish above cheetahs, theyre poor and crap

      jed.vonallemann - 2012-09-20 12:20

They will finish above no one, they useless and always will be.

      niel.walt - 2012-09-20 13:06

If they had 40 million to sign and keep players just handed to them by saru, the cheetas would make the playoffs.

      william.chestnut.33 - 2012-09-20 16:04

They'll finish above our 17yr cupless friends from Cape Town

What a lost to the Stormers/WP, Coetzee can't see talent even when it smacks him in the face. Why did they not offload all the up and coming FH for him.

  • jaymz.hurly - 2012-09-20 11:54

As a lions supported ill be support the kings next year in super rugby

  • tim.barkley.982 - 2012-09-20 12:01

massive loss!!!! very stupid of wp management. he's more than proven himself!

  • daniel.malan3 - 2012-09-20 12:13

Nick Mallet wanted to know if he had an Italian mother so he could play for Italy, also has to tell you something about his quality!

      craven.luyt - 2012-09-20 12:24

Nick Mallet lost 5/5 in his final 6 nations, single handedly destroyed Gaffies career and lost us a world cup because of his crush on Bobby. That man must just stay in the studio where he can do less harm.

      joneethling - 2012-09-20 14:19

Mention the Watsons and all the racists crawl out of the woodwork and start chirping their backward rubbish. Works like a charm.

  • craven.luyt - 2012-09-20 12:15

Gooi 'n Cat-rakilis and Puke Watson in the same team. Nauseating stuff going on down in PE

  • alan.simigianis - 2012-09-20 12:41

Should be kicking for the Springboks already

      craven.luyt - 2012-09-20 12:52

Mr Simigianis want a Greek in the team, Mr Mashebane wants an African in the team, Mr September/October wants a midget in the team, Mr Zoob wants a Martian in the team. WTF let the coach choose.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-09-20 13:32

but not many people want a morne in the team!

      william.chestnut.33 - 2012-09-20 16:55

@paul And most would like to win at least one cup in a 11yr period

  • KennySven - 2012-09-20 12:45

Cat don't turn your back on your captain as he might puke on you.

      hendrik.verwoerd.94 - 2012-09-20 17:36

Is this suppose to be a joke? I cannot start laughing.

  • niel.walt - 2012-09-20 12:54

Thought ep kings were gona develop eastern cape talent...

      johan.arendse.90 - 2012-09-20 13:11

Well the Bulls did not develop their own talent. They also keep on buying!

      joneethling - 2012-09-20 14:26

You thought what???? Are you for real? Do you understand how professional rugby works?

      niel.walt - 2012-09-20 14:41

Everyone buys players, but not everyone made promises to saru to get 40mil and play s15.

  • sebastian.debeer.1 - 2012-09-20 13:23

Good move and goodluck! Go Kings

  • munro.pretorius - 2012-09-20 13:40

The Kings will be a"pure white" team in the next 2 years. That will give Piet Snorre something to talk about.Thought that the Watsons was against white rugby players.

      joneethling - 2012-09-20 14:23

No moron, the Watsons are for non-racial rugby. Too complicated for you to understand.

  • Kevin - 2012-09-20 13:54

is this CAT.... born in the Eastern Cape cos Cheeky 's excuse for buying his way into Super Rugby at the expense of an established and proven team is that he is going to develop "LOCAL" talent. Maybe Cheeky thinks WP is local cos he spends so much time kissing arses at SARU in Cape Town

  • william.chestnut.33 - 2012-09-20 16:04

Well wherever he goes will be an improvement for his career He must just be so tired of being at a union that fails year in and year.

  • LouisBok - 2012-09-20 21:16

Another brilliant player lost WP!!! Public hate us for a reason-this is one. Who do you care for as a francise? Where's your pride? How can any youngster wish to play for us? If you're superman in WP rest assured you'll play in Pretoria or PE. What a farce. Good luck Dimitri, though your loyalty sucks.

  • justin.roper.3705 - 2012-09-21 02:34

Big lost for WP, he would have a better future staying at WP, at the looser kings he'll be in a loosing team where no springbok selector will look at them as their jersey will be coveres in puke. Was a big fan of Luke watson until he spoke smack about the bok jersey. Not cool Luke not cool at all.

  • sean.brady.14224 - 2012-09-22 23:13

This may mean that the Stormers have the lead over the Sharks on signing Jantjies. They cannot score the tries required with P Grant at 10, they need somebody who can get their back-line moving. I do not think this is a good move for Catrakilis. The Kings are on a year long hiding, it won't look good on his CV when he tries to sign for an overseas side in 2014!
