Carter to undergo surgery

Perpignan - Perpignan's star All Black flyhalf Dan Carter announced on Tuesday that he is to undergo surgery to repair his ruptured Achilles tendon.

Carter, unveiling the news at a press conference, said the operation would be carried out in Paris by professor Eric Rolland, a surgeon at the French capital's Pitie-Salpetriere hospital.

Rolland is part of the same medical team that twice operated on Brazil striker Ronaldo in 1999 and 2000.

Carter, the 59-Test veteran and 2005 world player of the year, will miss the rest of the French season due to the injury suffered in the closing stages of Perpignan's 13-13 draw with Stade Francais at the weekend.

Perpignan signed the rugby great who has only played in five matches on a lucrative six-month deal worth a reported 35,000 euros in December.
