Team profile: The Texans

Cape Town - After playing on the European circuit in many premier and social 7s and 10s events, The Texans was the brain child of Vaughan Gilson who launched the brand at the 2010 Cape Town 10s.

The team is made up of former club players predominantly from in and around Durban using the Cape Town 10s as a chance to polish their boots and see whether or not they still have what it takes to last 18 minutes on the park. The culture of the brand is represented by players, who play hard on the field and yet are still able to participate and enjoy the tournaments social highlights and after match festivities with a major focus being placed on what happens in the Beer Tent on each evening.

Each member of The Texans firmly believe that each game should be played hard, fair and according to the spirit of the tournament while still wanting to ultimately win every game.

The history of The Texans and the Cape Town 10s dates back to 2010 where we made our Beer League debut in the festival, winning our semi final but unfortunately not being able to play in the final against Maties due to late fixture changes and flights hampering our progress.

In 2011 The Texans lost in the semi final but as always still walked off the field with their heads held high. A highly noticeable part of The Texans in 2011 was the group of cheerleaders they had following them creating quite a buzz pitch side during games.

The Texans have been very fortunate to have had The Investec International Rugby Academy on board as an apparel sponsor to supply our members with playing kit and casual wear. We are also very proud to now have the Reclam Group on board as well just showing the belief people have in The Texans brand of being more than just a put together rugby team but also a group of men out to spread the brand and make the most out of the festival.
