Bulls to discuss Matfield role

2012-08-07 07:49

Cape Town - Former Springbok lock Victor Matfield looks likely to be appointed as the permanent forwards coach of the Blue Bulls.

According to Beeld, the board of directors of the Blue Bulls Company will hold a meeting on Tuesday where a few internal shifts and appointments will be discussed.

High on the agenda is the appointment of Matfield as the permanent fowards coach for the union's Super Rugby and Currie Cup teams. He is expected to replace Johann van Graan, who joined Heyneke Meyer at the Springboks.

Bulls coach Frans Ludeke is also expected to replace Meyer as the top rugby boss at the union.

The Blue Bulls start their Currie Cup campaign against Griquas at Loftus Verfeld in Pretoria on Friday night.

Kick-off is at 19:10.

      Of line outs?

True that @harold. I'm not really a fan of 'player becoming coach' situations, however, I believe VM could be one of those players who might just cut it as a coach - tactician type of individual.

Victor Matfield never hit many rucks and never made it to Japan. It is a sign of weakness to opt for the money over the physicality of the game here. Victor had great potential but he never quite reached his full potential. He liked to talk on the field but his move to play in France for money instead of getting beaten up in the local games really showed his true character. Bit of a maverick and skills at the back of the scrum poor.

Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Matfield was the best at Lock, but i hope he can remember 2 things, namely: a)you have to have a proper prop that CAN scrum, not the 2 wannabees that the Bulls had this year. b)a strong lock like Bakkies Botha is of cardinal importance at scumtime as such a lock can help the prop to scum strongly.no matter what anybody says, but Rugby starts at phase 1,namely the scum which MUST be won at all costs(unlike the disastrous scrum machine of the Bulls at present-Werner and Dean MUST be replaced and hopefully the Lock strenth at scrumtime will come with Willemse as the 2 current locks can NOT scrum at all).

Look I believe that WK and DG have been superb in every other department. Believe that the current game of rugby requires that you have either mobile or scrumming props. We need to start the correct props in the correct games!
