Pretoria - Bulls utility back Ulrich Beyers will know in the next few days if he will join the exodus to France after joining Bordeaux on a trial basis, the supersport.com website reports.
Beyers, who represented the Blue Bulls in last season’s Currie Cup semi-finals at fullback, didn’t feature in last Saturday’s pre-season opener for the Bulls against the Cheetahs and isn’t part of the squad that headed to London to face Saracens this weekend.
It has emerged that Beyers has been offered a trial with Bordeaux, with the option of a long-term contract if it goes well and could feature in his first start this coming weekend for the club.
The 24-year old former Hoërskool Ermelo player has been on the fringes of selection for some time now, and has struggled to break into the senior squad.
It seems he has been surpassed by SA under-20 prodigy Jesse Kriel, who was one of the standouts in the Bulls’ 30-13 pre-season win over the Cheetahs in Polokwane last weekend. The Bulls are likely to choose between Kriel and stalwart Jurgens Visser for the starting role in this year’s Super Rugby competition.
The Bulls also have Springbok Sevens star Warwick Gellant as another possible outsider for the role should the need arise.
