Cape Town - New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen admitted that the British and Irish Lions deserved their victory in Wellington on Saturday.

The tourists outscored the All Blacks two tries to none and although the world champions played most of the match with 14 players - after Sonny Bill Williams was red carded for foul play - Hansen was full of praise for the Lions after the match.

"I've always said they are a very good side and we didn't help ourselves by losing a player," Hansen told Sky Sports. "So, whilst I'm very proud of my team for the way they hung in there with 14 men, I've got to say well done to the Lions."

Hansen played down Williams' sending off and said he does not want to focus on that incident.

"Whether the referee got the call right or wrong is irrelevant," he added.

"You've got to go with what he decides.

"We shouldn't make the issue about a tackle. What we should be doing, from this point on, is looking at how we played and how they played.

"The Lions deserved the win."
