Munster seal Du Preez deal

2009-11-11 10:01

Munster - Munster have signed Cheetahs loosehead prop Wian Du Preez on a three-month contract.

According to the Irish Independent, with Marcus Horan and Dave Ryan ruled out until after Christmas and Darragh Hurley struggling with a shoulder injury, the 27-year-old Du Preez will join up with the Magners League champions once his participation in the Springboks' European tour is complete.

Du Preez put in powerful performance when the Cheetahs almost pulled off a famous victory over the British & Irish Lions in June, eventually going down 26-24.

Du Preez will return to South Africa for pre-season training with the Cheetahs ahead of the 2010 Super 14.

Du Preez will join former Stormers captain Jean de Villiers at Munster.

Thanx Pieter De Villiers! This is what happens when you overlook the real 2nd choice players for a Springbok tour!! He won`t be the last and I don`t blame him. Why would you stay if the 4th or 5th ranked player in the country are picked above you because you are not a "politicaly correct" individual?!?

They should have signed him for 3 years,he's overrated anyway. We have fresh blood here to replace him.Go on,jou moer!

Jeez guys have you only read the headline? He only signed a 3 MONTH deal with Munster and will be back for the 2010 S14.

Godpiet, 3 months is not forever. Just imagine the experience he will have and gain in those 3 months - come guy's think out the box for a minute

  • Pietie007 - 2009-11-11 15:53

@Baardman. I have to admit, I read a 3 YEAR contract and not a 3 MONTH contract. Sorry,my bad! But I still think there might be a few guys leaving SA soon.... hopefully I am wrong!!!

It will not come as a surprise if more players leave, and certainly don't blame them. For example,,just look at the two hookers that played in last Friday night's disaster and you will know what I mean!!!!

He cannot play HC rugby as he was nominated as one of their squad. So after AIs, 2 games in December and and 2 in January are HC and then we are back to 6N's seems a bit pointless!!
