Cape Town – An emotional Alet Strydom from Welgelegen said on Friday that she knew the Stormers player and Springbok lock Andries Bekker was married when she met him.
Huisgenoot on Friday carried an article on the affair between Strydom, 22, and Bekker, 26, as well as photographs of them canoodling in a Plattekloof park in Cape Town.
Strydom said, however, that 75% of the things written about her in the magazine were untrue.
Bekker admitted the affair. “I am deeply sorry. It was the first time and I was stupid. I only pray that Pioni (his wife) will forgive me,” he said from Wales where he was touring with the Boks. He returned to SA on Thursday due to a back injury.
Bekker got married two years ago.
A fan who stayed in Plattekloof recognised Bekker during one of his meetings with Strydom. They apparently often met at the same spot and had been having an affair for five months.
Strydom, a fourth-year student, said she had met Bekker in the beginning of the year at a rugby event where she had worked.
“I knew he was married. Joe (Pietersen) also told me that he was married. He was also wearing his wedding ring that evening.”
A crying Strydom said she hadn’t thought she would see either of them again.
She said many of the things written about her in the article, especially regarding her sex life, were untrue and based on a game played on Facebook.
