Maygene de WeeCape Town - former Springbok hooker Dale Santon will be appointing security guards at his house to ensure the safety of his family.
Santon, who is recovering in a private hospital, said he would also like to know why his home was petrol bombed in the early hours of last Saturday morning.
Santon sustained second-degree burn wounds in the incident, and after being admitted to hospital needed an urgent skin graft to his face and right arm.
On Tuesday the police said Santon is "clean".
When asked, Keith Chandler, spokesperson for Diep River police, said Santon's past, his personal life and his current business affairs were investigated, but nothing out of the ordinary was found.
He said as of yet they don't have a motive or suspects.
Chandler said it was established that the number plate of the orange BMW which was used in the incident was stolen in Grassy Park last month.
A witness who saw the BMW stop at Santon's house was able to memorise the registration number.
The owner of the number plate told the police his vehicle's bumper was stolen along with the number plate.
When asked whether he could think of any reason why someone would want to attack him or his family, Santon said he was baffled and couldn't think of anything.
He also said he has no business activities besides his permanent job.
"I work for a boss and we're not allowed to do other work.
"And I certainly don't party, so I can't think why anyone would want to bomb my house."
