Baby Boks gear for Argentina

Cape Town - The South Africa Under-20 training squad assembled in Johannesburg to complete their final preparations for their three week tour to Argentina.

The 34-player squad was kitted out on Sunday and had their first training session on Monday at St Stithians College in Bryanston, Johannesburg.

Two more field sessions are planned for Tuesday before the team travels to Buenos Aires from the OR International Airport on Wednesday.

The Junior Springboks training squad will play one midweek match and two friendly internationals against Argentinian opposition as part of their preparations for the 2013 IRB Junior World Championships (JWC), which will be held during June in France. The Baby Boks are the current JWC champions.

Coach Dawie Theron’s squad will play their first tour match on Saturday, April 13 against an Argentina U-20 XV in Corrientes. This will be followed by two clashes against the Argentina U-20’s on April 16 (Corrientes) and April 21 (Buenos Aires) respectively. The squad returns home on April 23 and the final SA U-20 JWC squad will be named on April 26.

Five squad members players will be in action in the Varsity Cup final on Monday evening in Stellenbosch and they will join their team-mates on Tuesday morning in Johannesburg. The five players are Handré Pollard, Marvin Orie (Tukkies), Jurie van Vuuren, JP Lewis and Freddie Kirsten (Maties).

The Bulls’ JWC winning centre Jan Serfontein and Kings teenage wing Sergeal Petersen were not considered for the tour because of Super Rugby commitments. They will however be considered for JWC selection.

Also included in the squad are Springbok Sevens players Seabelo Senatla and Justin Geduld, both members of the Blitzbokke who won the Tokyo Sevens tournament last weekend.
