Johannesburg - Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu was honoured on Monday by the country's sports journalists when he walked away with the award for the most media friendly personality at the 29th Annual SAB sports journalism awards.
Treu and his Springbok Sevens team recently became only the third country to take the spoils in the IRB World Sevens Series, when they won the coveted trophy for the 2008/09-season.
The awards dinner was held at the Sandton Sun Hotel in Johannesburg.
"To be honoured by South Africa's top sports journalists in this way, is amazing. As a team we've always placed a high premium on our preparations on and off the field," said Treu.
"Again, this award is not only for me. It’s for every squad member that helped to make this season a huge success.
"A huge thanks to everyone involved from SA Rugby's side, as well as our main sponsors, Sasol, and of course, the media – our relationship have grown so much over the last few years and that has helped push Sevens Rugby to the fore in South Africa."
Treu and the Springbok Sevens team are currently preparing for the upcoming World Games, which kicks off in Kaohsiung in Japan on July 16.
The Springbok Sevens coach recently won the Men's Health Best Man Award for Sport.
